Another cart ride. Another false alarm. It must be the precautionary preseason. Arizona Cardinals running back Beanie Wells became the latest player to be driven off the practice field due to an injury Monday. According to the team’s official website, Wells got nailed in the ribs by safety Hamza Abdullah during an 11-on-11 running play and went to the ground doubled over in pain. He reached his feet a minute or two later and gingerly walked to the sidelines. Shortly thereafter, he took a seat in the front of a cart and went to go get some tests done on his ribs. Head coach Ken Whisenhunt later told reporters that a CT scan showed no fracture or any other major damage. Wells is just sore and will be listed as day-to-day.
FANTASY ANALYSIS: Tim Hightower will continue to take the majority of the first-string snaps. Wells is currently listed as the Cardinals’ No. 2 running back, but that should change soon. Of course, a major injury would have hurt his stock, but his fantasy value is stable after today’s close call. He’s a good No. 2 fantasy running back. He could be a major touchdown threat and has been working on his receiving skills. Wells should be gone in 12-team drafts by the middle of the third round. [Go To Page]
